So, everyone talks about their cellphone network provider being a monopoly but aren't home internet providers the real monopoly? I live in Dublin, California and the only option I have for internet at home is with Comcast. I don't know for sure but it seems like big internet companies don't enter into areas where there are competitors. It seems like they just border and take control over different areas rather than competing and providing cheaper options...
FWIW, they will enter when it is economical to do so. My town was basically Comcast-only for years, but recently AT&T installed a fiber network. Coincidentally, Comcast also discovered that it can offer lower prices, too! It also helps that we didn’t sign a citywide exclusivity agreement.
Yes, but they have been exploiting a loophole to "not be a monopoly" Basically, the various ISP's have been negotiating territory for non-competition. No one ISP owns the entire state, but they section off their providing areas. Kind of like if gangs announced a turf war truce and used negotiation.
