You know you want to :-) Pretty damn cheap compared to almost all other tech hubs. Plus if you dangle the carrot of moving to US , highly talented folks would queue up to do the kind of crap work no engineer in Seattle or Bay would touch with a 10 ft pole.
Airseva is their India odc in gurgaon
What's airseva?
In my previous company(it’s not a tech company ) there is an India dept, back in 90s, our India department was responsible for building all the internal tools and services, they are passable for few internal features. I’ve had chance to work with our offshore India team for a couple of times, the impressions they give me are: passionate but exaggerated. They tend to claim XXX is 100% completed while it’s only partially done.
It would water down the quality of engineering given that Indians have less skill, poor communication and over promise and under deliver. I’m sure they can hire yes men right here at home.
That's a major generalisation right there.
So glad we haven’t done that. I’ve only had bad experiences working with India teams. The supposed cost savings isn’t worth it.
There’s already a China eng office who practically operates on their own, on their own product, geared towards the Chinese guest market. If India had the same amount of outbound travelers as China, there would be one in India already. Basically, the Chinese eng office is there to serve the Chinese market, not to bring cheap labor to the company.
China is so special and so different from other markets that we’ve made a whole business just for it. If India is special enough to make a whole business just for it, then we could talk about having an India dev team to work on that product. Most countries aren’t different enough to have their own business.
I see a lot of employees at LinkedIn - AirBnb NCR
Airbnb finally opened a proper engineering office in Bangalore in 2021
I have past experience with remote teams in India and it is very challenging. It is true you get some good engineers, but more than often they aren’t so good. Communication is pain, they never deliver what has been signed off.
Sorry to hear that. All my teams have had very good working relations with US counterparts, but exp will probably vary from team to team. Was this at Apple ?
Can confirm. The work ethic it's very different in India.
