Come on Sundar!

The hire of Thomas Kurian was clearly a political move of Sundar. This combined with some re-orgs makes most profitable orgs of Google (Ads&GPI, Search, Cloud) run by Sundar's buddies.
I know DG is generally useless, but this is just no way a suitable hire. Here's a former Oracle Svp's comment of Thomas Kurian https://www.quora.com/Have-you-worked-for-Thomas-Kurian-at-Oracle-He-is-the-new-CEO-of-Google-Cloud-What-is-he-like/answer/Cameron-Purdy, which aligns with what Oracle folks are saying on blind.
I mean this guy's svp level report is willing to post against him with real name, you don't really need background check to know his reputation.

The only reason I can see is to strengthen Sundar's position. Is Larry going to put up with this kind of politicizing?

Unfortunately he may remove Larry and Sergey from board and replace them with his other Indian buddies some day. We're easily fooled by them until they gain power amd turn their face.

Are you nuts? Larry and Sergey literally own the company through their super voting stock.

LOL, Sundar is Larry's and Sergey's soulless puppet. He can't poop without someone else instructing him to do it.
TK is a goal oriented minion that may be useful to boost cloud numbers, but don't be fooled into thinking these people have any real power.

With all the recent nonsense about visas and immigration, TVCs and recently hired AMZ in cloud are ready to be exploited and TK is the one who will crack the whip for Larry and Sergey.

Right so Terry Semel was fooling you when he placed Prabhakar Raghavan as head of Yahoo research. Before that Stanford, Yale fooled you by making him a professor and ACM when they made him editor in Chief. Most recently Larry Page fooled you again when he was hired by Google.

Larry Ellison also fooled you by keeping Thomas there for 22 years and making him svp. Before that McKinsey, Stanford, Princeton took part in fooling by allowing him to work/study there.

And this really started 20 years ago when Google hiring committee fooled you by lowering their standards for Ben Gomes when they hired him 2 months after hiring Jeff Dean in 1999. In case of Jeff Dean there was no fooling. And they have kept fooling you since then as only 9 other employees exist at Google who are older than Ben Gomes.

Subtle Racism. The dude who wrote the quora answer could be just pissed off that his start up is not working while everyone is moving on. I checked his company's home page, it's apparently in stealth mode since 2015.

Google is really awesome at tech and better than other cloud providers in terms of features and cost, but what they don't have is a really good sales and support organization. This hire just reflects that. Oracle however cringeworthy it is in terms of tech, every enterprise company uses them and there's a reason. Sales and Support. This guy could help get that to Google cloud.

Just because you don't get this, doesn't mean the CEO is biased lol

So the CEO hired Thomas JUST because they are both Indian and board of directors didn't say anything and agreed with Sundar?

Were you there when this happened or you just hate Indians?

Its a known fact that Indian only hire fellow Indians. In my company my manager who is Indian only seriously considers another Indian for any opening. The team that was very well diversified is now almost 90% Indian.

I myself is Indian but this sadly is mostly true.

Sorry for the presumption, as a girl growing up in India was a traumatic experience. Harassment galore, on every road, busses, everywhere.

You asked a question and I don’t know the answer as to how many disapprove of their parents choices. But it’s a flawed premise. In Indian culture ones parent pays for everything including education due to which they have a greater say in their life. And then there is a big element of economics attached to this whole thing. For my parents to get me married to a highly qualified Indian guy, they will have to pay hundreds of thousands of $$$ to grooms family. There are a lot of dynamics which is not apparent due to which mostly men do not rebel against their parents.

To understand what I am saying here wait till they become your manager.

Your original assertion was that Indians only hire Indians. Now this has grown into a sob story of why you aren't getting married. The two are disconnected.

Paypal, Indian woman here as well. From an upper middle-class, educated background. My parents will not offer dowry when I get married. I'd not want them to, either. Understandably, this scenario may never occur for me as I'd not be interested in anyone who's interested in (receiving) dowry. Still, just saying.

  • Yes Dara is also biased when he went for hiring an Indian for a top job. Wait! He is Iranian!. Maybe the bias is for merit and not skin color/ethnicity?
These racist Butthurt MAGA fans should at least learn to think beyond race.

We live in strange times indeed, and I'm also very sad for Google. Compared to Amazon and MSFT, it's has a much more preferable DNA/values. Although I wonder how much of that is left.

I think Google's high bar for hiring has the effect possibly of just a wee bit of koolaid drinking and arrogance in the culture. TK was right when he said "we need more empathy for enterprise customers and their legacy challenges". This is spot on.

I find GCP's documentation not very intuitive compared to AWS. If I'm a potential customer, and have deadlines to get something working, an AWS product I'll figure out how to use in 5 to 10 minutes, whilst with GCP I'll end up confused and frustrated after 30 minutes. Guess which product me the customer will end up going with?

WTF? Thomas Kurian lasted so many years next to Larry Ellison, and is a Princeton and Stanford grad. It will be interesting to watch how/if he gets along with Sundar Pichai.
