Lol. Lyft and Airbnb bars are much lower than Amazon (outside of Amazon new grad cannon fodder) and Lyft comp is way worse than the whisper numbers here on Blind at more senior levels. Recruiting there is also amateur hour. Apple should at best be in tier with Amazon and Microsoft. Tier 0 and 1 not really different. Google prestige is an illusion. Uber and FB are just there because comp is excellent.

@snowflake you’ve used the word twice does this describe you? Generally agree though. How many blind points does it take to get the prestigious top badge?

I used the word in response to the OPs post, and referred to it as "an illusion" and to refer to the fact that it seems to be something valued in Indian culture. I hardly think that qualifies as using the word in the sense I meant.

How am I a douchebag? I am noting a weird anomoly about the people on Blind who seem to be obsessed with this concept. I love my Indian friends and coworkers, but the "prestige" idea about an employer just leaves me SMH.

It’s a little over the top but I don’t see anything wrong in having a sense of pride in where one works. Don’t think that should lend itself into putting other companies down though which is frequent enough on blind.

+1. Lnkd deserves tier 2 (or 1) though.

  • HP / Eng Modulus
HP is definitely Tier 0 when it comes to WLB, engineering culture, and ability to move within the company. Not so much on pay and prestige.

You got to be kidding right? Hpe is a dog shit company with pig shit tc ranges for engineering. Not to mention layoffs every quarter.

I must've felt optimistic that day. HP Inc. has good work-life balance and mostly friendly helpful engineers. The rest is me-too mediocrity and just average.

Nah. Tier 5 is at least name brand. Somehow recruiters tell me ibm on my resume is good even though i know the truth. My no name small companies are clearly lower level for prestige. Tier 6+ is"everyone else"

  • Salesforce profiles
I'd put Salesforce on tier 3. Wlb is good. If you're high up (PMTS+), your pay is actually pretty good AND we supposedly have title inflation, so it's easy to level up. I see a lot of Microsoft and Amazon refugees here, so I'm not sure that they are that much better.

Second that, PMTS+ is pretty nice. I have offers from SFDC and FB(E5). Current TC ~330k. Going to go with SFDC since their offer is better. With the current 8yr run of the bull market, FB RSUs don't seem that attractive now.
Before anybody asks, sorry don't plan to share the offer info.
