Common grammatical and pronunciation mistakes non-English speakers make when using English?

Instead of making fun of people who speak English as a second language on Blind ( or anywhere else ) how about the next time you ( a native english speaker who most probably is monolingual) hear someone say something incorrect ( grammatical or pronunciational ) then you politely correct them ? We can start by listing a few frequently used incorrect phrases and their correct alternatives. I’ll start with a tip for the native english speakers specially in America :- literally doesn’t mean figuratively ... Example :- if you “literally” died while waiting in the traffic then I wouldn’t be hearing you yap about it now because you’d be literally dead !

Ah, that specific use of the word literally is meant to be an exaggeration. It’s a correct use of the language because everyone understands it. Gotta say brother, that’s a bad example.

BlackRock fuckFANG OP Oct 29, 2019

Nope it’s not correct usage .... just because the incorrect usage is so prevalent that Oxford had to include it as the “informal” version doesn’t make it correct ..... because if that’s correct then there noting wrong with “prepone”, “doing the needful”, “revert back”

I never said those are wrong. That’s the beauty of language, it gets shaped by its environment. I love those quirks, they are local and so expressive. Everyone understands “do the needful,” even if they never heard it before.

"Land up" instead of "end up"

BlackRock fuckFANG OP Oct 29, 2019

Never heard than one ... so you’re saying you’ve heard it being said like “I landed up on the incorrect address” ?

If you're not careful you'll land up in jail.

As a non-native speaker, let me begin by first correcting your first clause. Too long, btw. You can break it for better readability. Instead of making fun of people who speak English as a second language on Blind ( or anywhere else )😀comma needed here😀how about the next time you ( a native english speaker who most probably is monolingual) hear someone say something incorrect ( grammatical or pronunciational ) then 😀twice you - not needed 😀 you politely correct them ? 😀I hope I was polite about it😀

BlackRock fuckFANG OP Oct 29, 2019

The comma would be needed if I hadn’t used the brackets :) .... also the second you maybe be eliminated in your opinion but in no way is it grammatically incorrect :)

F5 Networks bhai-log Oct 29, 2019

Sorry, you are incorrect in your assessment. Also you can improve your clause a lot. Anyway, stop judging people. But good attempt, still.

One co worker says "improvise" when she means " improve."

BlackRock fuckFANG OP Oct 29, 2019

Really ? Wow ... you should try to subtlety correct her ....

No and. "Until unless we see the spec, we can't review it"
