Commute from SNV to the city

Oath Ftdajbx
Dec 2

I live near SNV Caltrain. And pondering over taking a job in the city.

How would be the commute? If I take the Caltrain then I'll have to take Muni from the SF station. But if I take the Bart then, it will leave me next to the work place.

After talking to the manager they mentioned that I can wfh once a week but after a while on the job. And not immediately.

Have never commuted and really skeptical... just not sure what I should expect.

I actually received an offer from Uber and will be making a similar trek. How do you get from Caltrain to the office?

Nice. With commute (4 hours) and work (8 hours) you'd only be spending 75% of your awake time (16 hours) for work.

      24 hours a day - 8 hours sleep = 16 hours awake time. 8 hours work + 4 hours commute = 12 hours work related. 12/16 = 75% of awake time that's work related.

I would budget a 1 hr 30 min commute each way. So prepare to set aside 3hr / day of your life

1.5 hour is the time you spend on the train alone. The whole commute can easily take 2 hours from door to door

Travelled from Lawerence Caltrain to Market street in the city for a year. 4 hours in a day is taken away from your life.

    Cons:

Your life will be around train schedule
    Train break downs/delays are frequent
Be ready to face the crowd both in Sunnyvale and City (getting a seat might be difficult if you plan to use bike)
You might end up paying more fare, miss to tag in/out, forget taking pass or under utilizing monthly pass. Also Caltrain fares increased twice in 1.5 years
Train journey is not relaxing and your energy will be drained out

    Options

Shift to city if the pay hike is good
Take more WFH if your company allows

Which company offer you got? TC and jump %?

Approx 30% increase over my current TC except the paper money. WeWork.

I don't want to move to the city. For whatever reason I don't like to live in the city. 😓

Will suck. I did for 6 months and gave up. Unless you have an option to work from home at least 2 days a week. If you have a kids, don't even think about it unless you have a stay home partner.
