I am planning an internal transfer from Seattle to Bay area within Amazon. Same title, job family and level. I heard the base salary will be adjusted and the RSU won't. Does anyone have similar experiences before and hnow which part of the total comp is negotiable?
I think Microsoft used to give a 10% adjustment on base (they might still do that). Tableau is also 10% bump I think.
Yes still only 10% but that barely covers taxes
Why would you move to Bay Area unless you make at least 30-40% more? With CA income tax you lose 10% immediately.
Most companies have a fixed multiplier they'll offer, it's typically not negotiable.
Why would Amazon change your comp? Most companies pay cost of demand not living so Seattle and sf would be the same.
SF is generally a higher paid market. Facebook is the only company that I know of that pays the same
Max base is 185K vs 160K so you can certainly push and expect a 16% base bump. I doubt you’ll get any difference in RSUs (I had Amazon offer for both and only base would have been different). I would definitely not move if I were you.
But I realize that’s not already a done deal it sounds like. I personally would want a significant amount more. At least 25%. Id figure 25K more in annual housing cost and same for tax...
I did such a move. Salary adjustment: yes. RSU: no. Relocation of 15k is given. Cost of living in SFO is not that high compared to Seattle. I pay the same for housing - only difference is eating out but I rarely do
Are you comparing a rental in a suburb like Newark to downtown Seattle? Doesn’t make sense to me. For buying, it’s 2X the $/SFT for comparable desirability.
I am renting about 20 min from where I work (SFO 10). About buying I just do not buy in SEA or SFO, this is way too expensive, I invest my money in other products that yield more monthly return than my actual rent (so rent is paid by investments).
Do you mind sharing some of the monthly yield investments you are using to pay taxes ?
Can I ask what you ended up doing? Curious to know as I am in the same situation.
Hi can you share the outcome of the transfer? I’m going thru a similar process

Do not move without at least 50% pay bump. CA is expensive.
