Currently negotiating comp for a L6 senior scientist at Amazon in Tokyo. Anyone knows the comp range? Would be useful to know during the negotiation process, apparently comp is significantly different from the US
Can't speak to your role specifically, but I've seen a much lower TC when compared to other eng roles. That said, PPP wise, it's supposed to be roughly the same.
Sounds obvious but watch the tax on income
Out of curiosity, how many days of annual leave were in your offer?
Income tax and rental costs are way smaller compared to the US (even if you just look at def income tax). When I live in Japan the after tax rate was 75-80%, and that was after health premiums and 401K (national pension) too. In a really nice area in Tokyo a brand new apartment with multiple room would be in the $2k but you can find better deals. Those are things you need to factor in when comparing compensations.
ever find out an idea of the comp ranges? curious if $200k TC is possible to break through in Tokyo with 6 or so YOE
@OOqx28 if you smash the interview and for L6 and can negotiate, I reckon you can get ¥20M TC
Are you already l6 in Seattle? I heard internal transfer from Seattle to Japan gets to keep the same pay.
