Are there any companies with only once-in-a-lifetime shot at their interview process? The business insider article seems to suggest Apple is like that, is that true?
No. Apple does not do that. Maybe per team yes, but not at a company-wide level. That would be very foolish of them to assume that a candidate isn't good enough because a team didn't want them. Source: I used to work as a SWE there
I interviewed at Apple once in 2016 and got rejected from the position. However, I did get two more calls almost 2 years later for that same group and similar position. So I guess Apple doesn’t do that either.
Ernst & Young? if you interview for accounting then yea.
They don’t really hire externally? From what I saw you start out of collage and then work you way up. Lots of people quit every year. Seems to be hard to break in at higher ranks.
they do hire transfers from other accounting firms. Not sure about industry transfer into public accounting though. That could be a different game.
Renaissance Technologies
Only if they remember
Yeah, but it's really more of a "we"ll call you first" thing.
Life guard. If you survive you get the job , if you drown you die and loose the job. One shot.
I'm confused what's the point of companies who do this to do this? Unless you're a stockbroker for wall street... why?
Some hedge fund try to present the reputation of winning, and it works for them until a final massive loss shut down the fund and fired the manager, permanently.
The top job at the white house!
Didn’t Mitt Romney try two times 2008 and 2012
I think it was McCain in 2008.
Mitt lost to McCain in Republican primaries in 2008.
I worked for a proprietary trading firm that did this, pretty sure it’s fairly standard in that industry.
No, I wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for a second shot
Rumor has it AirBNB does that
I asked my friend about this and he said no. He works there.
No
