Scenario: offer for amazon L5 data engineer and another company for senior data engineer both at Seattle. Compensation: Amazon: 190k TC for L5 and it can go upto 265k after a year (promised promotion to L6) Another company: 235k TC I am inclined towards the other company and see a lot of potential for growth here but it is not amazon. I am bit confused. Am I making a big mistake? I’ll be moving to Seattle from Bay Area. Fed up of the housing prices and traveling.
You need to consider vesting schedule at amazon. Huge numbers dont add up that big when you have only 5% first year then 15% next year. Is another company publicly traded?
Yes, they are publicly traded and they have equal vesting (25% each year) but they don’t provide much stock options like amazon.
No one can promise u promo. If u believe that you've got more issues
This.
Ha ha ha. There is no such thing as a “promised promotion to L6”. It happens “only” when it happens. Don’t believe recruiters
Thank you! Does the compensation look right for both L5 and L6 for data engineers in Seattle. I have heard it’s not comparable to Sde.
265 would be a very low SDE3 offer. So maybe 190k is ok ?
Tableau?

If they promised you a promo why not give it now. Alot can happen in a year.
