Got a verbal offer from Compass (SWE level II): Base: 130k Equity: 120k(over 4 years period) No cash/sign-on bonus Currently employed by EPAM Systems but working as TVC (vendor) at Google NY for over a year. I applied last month to Google and reached on-sites but they rejected me. Also reached on-sites for Microsoft and Amazon last year but no offers. Current TC: ~140k (base + bonus, no equity) Current role: Senior SWE YOE: 9 (1 year on-site at Google NY, US and 8 years in small companies, outside the US) Should I accept the offer? It seems they're low-balling me, but it's slightly better than what I have now. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
If you have nothing better why wouldn’t you take it? Can’t negotiate without offers at hand.
Exactly. @OP - I got an offer with them last year, and they raised their offer by 50K after I gave them numbers from my competing offers.
Good to know, thanks. I'm in a process with other two companies, hopefully I'll get an offer to negotiate further.
Seems low
A recruiting agency I worked with a while back told me they can offer $180k base for senior level with TC of $250-300k.
Yes, I've heard/read the same. I applied to senior level (SWE III) but they said given my interview performance they can only offer SWE II. 100k difference between a single level seems too much.
You can ask for at least 10k sign on
You can get more
What would you say is a fair, reachable comp?
Come and join us at Redfin :)
Haven't heard of it before. Would you really recommend it?
I liked it here, public company but it is still like a startup. Engineering team is small compared to companies at similar mkt cap so you can make really good impact here. Are you only looking at NYC area? Redfin only has engineering office in TX, SF, SEA ...
Definitely negotiate. For one thing I have not heard of a SWE here without a signon bonus
Ok, will do that. Thanks!

A verbal offer is not an offer.
So?
