Compensation Microsoft

I have 5 years experience in software field and did my masters. I recently got a job offer from microsoft and they offered me Level 60 which I’m not happy with. Please help me with what I can negotiate. Edit: I was offered 120k/25k/20k base/stocks/bonus.

You want to negotiate compensation or level? Level is usually harder then compensation. For compensation, you need leverage to negotiate. It would be easier for others to help if you can give more details about the offer A little rant: learn how to ask question, read https://stackoverflow.com/help/how-to-ask

Isn't level another reflection of TC? Roughly.

Yes, level determines the range and you can still negotiate your position within the range. Hence level is harder to negotiate

Aim for 200k. They can make it happen for 5yoe though coming in at L60.

I’m not going to join for those figures brother. That was a starting point and I’m rejecting if I’m not given higher level.

How did you do on the interviews? Wonderinf how they decide the level.

I think I did well. As per the conversation I had with HR, he said its based on interviews but hard to believe.

Masters people usually have little to no experience that's why standard offer is L60. You will need to negotiate.

Thanks

Wait, even if you were working FT as a SWE, if you just finished a part time masters, they level you at 60?

Seems typical if you're not coming from another big tech company or don't have any competing offers in hand. I joined with 2.5 YOE @ level 59 for 115k/20k/15k after coming from a tiny company without any other offers.

What's your current comp? You won't get more than a 25% comp bump.

The same offer I got 4 years ago. Looks like salaries at MS never change.
