Compensation after MS

I've a friend who didn't get any work experience and directly did MS. He got a job in Amazon, Seattle with following details. Base - 108k Joining bonus - 20k first year, 28k second year Stocks - 80k (vested over 4 year) This seems low to me, as even PP gives 120k base for SE2. Would this payscale differ if he would have work experience before doing an MS? Does the college have any impact on TC? Thank you.

Good he didn't have work ex. New grad salary is same irrespective of experience

It's a new grad salary

What if he/she had work experience of 3-4 years?

Then may be l60 which gets you base around 120k

A master’s degree won’t have too much impact on initial TC. It’ll have an impact later on when being considered for more senior roles and promotions.

Yes, that one I'm aware of. Just curious to know how much they value work experience in relative field and change TC?

It depends on a lot of factors. You're comparing 120k base of PP in Bay to 108k of AMZN in SEA. (Last I remember PP had no office in SEA) And, PP SE2 is lower than being AMZN SDE2. It takes a few years, right experience and projects to get to an SDE2 at AMZN. The offer is standard and decent. Unless, your friend has highly specialized MS and has been hired to a specific team + role. I've seen folks with work experience getting a similar offer. The argument goes back to the highly specialized MS, team, role, a hot area in market (ML/AI).

Thank you, this makes it much clear now.
