Man, India salaries are higher than EU, Uk, Australia and Canada.

And life is cheaper too. Wtf just happened in the last few years?

    • Haha. INR is going down in the toilet. That's whats happening.

^ but you can buy Rs 10,000 smart phones and Rs 100 lunch. What's the point of making 1cr when you have to pay 40 lacs in taxes, 20 lacs in rent and Rs 70,000 for a smartphone?
      Sep 29, 2018
    • 10k for smartphones? Sure if you wanna buy chinese counterfeit phones. If you're earning 1cr you'll pay 40% taxes anyway in India and adding you wouldn't see a dime being used.

Xiaomi is not counterfeit. It's almost on par with pixel. I don't want to spend 70k on a phone worth 10k.

You are overrating what you get for the remainder 60L in the US. Mandatory expenses in US are far too high. It's great as a single non home owning person but if you have a house, car, 10s of insurance premiums, all worth 30-40L a year. People end up saving only 10-20L fir a similar carefree lifestyle. Sure you can save more by living 2 hours away from fun places.

But if you want to live in an equivalent of Bandra or Koramangala or Gurgaon, you're fucked here.
      Sep 30, 2018
    • 10k or 70k on phone is a matter of personal preference. I have no argument on that. You wanna buy Xiaomi, be my guest. Your argument are based on the premise that I'm comparing it with US. Who said I'm talking about US ?

Also living is not a balance sheet. Earnings, expenditure and savings. I'm primarily comparing the life styles, meaning day to day life.

FYI I've lived in EU and US and would choose EU any given day, even for a pay cut !

I believe it has come to a point where if you are earning more than 75 lac in India, does not make a lot of sense to move to even Bay Area to save more.

    • @adobe its the same case every where and i don't live in ncr. With at least that kinda earning you'll at least live a decent life ... compared to the ones outside.

Agreed. But given an option would people earning 300k in US return to NCR for 75 lac?

1.5 Cr possible. You can try in startups like swiggy, Rubrik, Cohesity.

Atlassian is also hiring in Bangalore and paying up to 2Cr for this experience.

Amazon India pays 80 lakhs (50 base + 30 stocks) for newly promoted SDE3s. External hire can bargain for more.

Altassian does not pay this high. Don't think they easily pay 300 k in US. Do you think Swiggy can pay 80-90 lac cash.

You get US stocks if you relocate within same company. At 65 level MS would give 50 lac as base salary. So 90 lac to 1 cr would be possible.

No matter the amount that indian companies are offering today one can always save at least three times more in US when compared to India. That’s why people are still trying to move...

Gone the days of saving 3 times. I did the math, barely touching 2 times. Salaries in India increased a lot in the past 4-5 years.

It depends. In India, I will have freedom to create 2nd income. I can start a side business and work on the generate passive income generation and make myself job proof. This will help me in retiring earlier or whenever I want. In USA, you have to wait loooong time to get green card. So yeah, it depends.

  • Again with all the discussions going on here are only looking at it one side of living. When looking at "living" in India, TC isn't the only part, the life style matters a lot!

Let's say you are earning 80lpa in India. Equivalent role can offer you 300k in Seattle. At 80 lpa you can save 60k$ in India. At 300k you can save 120k in US. So yes it's double.
