Competitive Facebook offer for Google L4/ Amazon L5

Currently SDE 2 (promoted last quarter) at Amazon and waiting on the official numbers from Google.

Yes my question is about Facebook offer because I’ve heard google is notorious for lowballing and your current TC wont matter in negotiation. So I’m just gonna tell them I have a Facebook offer but then again, I don’t have one so I don’t know what a good offer looks like.

TC: 160k

If not offering fair tc and lowballing just because you don’t have other offers is fair game so is lying about other offers

@google.... how is this lying not valid but when you ask the recruiter about the max numbers, they blatantly lie to you and that is fair game. He dint lie about his skills part which is what matters, he is playing the lie game for comp because the company and recruiter is playing one too.

Don’t recruiters tell you that it’s their max offer all the times and they change the offer in one second after knowing your competing offers? If you are willing to walk away from the current offer, there is no harm to make up a competing offer for negotiation

TC 350k (not including your sign on bonus) is a solid L4 offer

Low-ball. Ask for 550k at least.

Are you kidding? 550k is a decent L6 offer.

And 400k that you initially had up there is a strong l5 offer. I honestly thought you were trolling, so I just joined.

Recruiters tell you many things which are lies and they change their beat in a second when they hear there is another offer on the table. Common things told by recruiters
    - I'm in your camp/advocate
    - this is the max number of rsu and we cannot go higher
    - we are bringing you in as a high senior/staff and you could become a staff/principal in less than a year
I've seen recruiters go up anywhere from 15-40% when you tell them there is alternate offer on the table.
Who cares if some folks question the morality of lying. Those people don't want to work with a immoral person (per their standard) yet work for a company who does immoral things at many places (data privacy, paying less taxes than they could).

I've used many techniques from haseebq's article on negotiation. I would say best 2 things are
      - having alternate offers/willingness to walk away
      - keeping the door open for negotiation without being a jerk

Just tell them you're not going to disclose competitive offers just like they're not going to tell you who else they're interviewing

Then they don't give you a good offer.

Why should they care? There are so many candidates.

    • Amazon Mary2018
Why should the candidate care? There is high competition for talent. Yes there are lots of candidates, of which very few meet the FANG bar. Consistently holding the line and/or bluffing in negotiations is just fine.

Good luck getting compensation and WLB like at Google.

Mary2018 you can get a free banana and keep working. You can go home at 5am for 2 hours break and then back to work.
