-Free gourmet breakfast and lunch prepared in-house. I've eaten at almost all the tech companies in the Bay Area and Twitter's food is definitely one of the best. Only Dropbox and Linkedin are on the same level. But I think LinkedIn uses the same company so that's why. This is why I come into the office everyday (as opposed to WFH). This is seriously one of the reasons why it's hard for me to leave Twitter. I mean have you tried Uber's lunch? It's just depressing. And there aren't that many lunch options outside nearby (Uber is right next to Twitter, so that's how I know), so it's not about the money. -Free Smoothie and Juice bar with 20+ different fruits and vegetables to choose from to make a smoothie or juice (also can add protein powder, peanut butter, organic almond butter, etc) -Dinner to-go for $5 (includes tax already) -Fully stocked refrigerators full of beer. White wine, red wine and beer also on tap (all free). -Free organic milk, fat free milk, 2% reduced fat milk, lactose-free milk, almond milk, and soy milk (and many other beverages and snacks) in the kitchenettes -$90 cell phone reimbursement every month (eng only) -$60 gym/fitness reimbursement every month -Unlimited vacation policy (that you can really use) -Generous WFH policy -Some employees are fully remote, living in bumsville middle America, making Silicon Valley TC (must be senior swe or higher) -5 months fully paid time off for having a baby (doesn't matter if you are male, female or transvestite) -great WLB, on most teams you won’t work 40+ hours/week -Fully covered medical, vision, dental health insurance (no monthly premiums) for yourself -Reimburses you for a brand new personal cell phone of your choice every 2 years (edit: basically everyone can get the, not just eng) -No more 4 year cliff. Assuming no promotions or raises, in your 5th year at Twitter you will at least make as much as your 1st year -Bonus is now at 20% for Senior SWE -401K matching up to $3k (not great I know. but better than nothing) -Allows Mega Backdoor Roth IRA -Twitter matches on donations up to some number I forgot (or didn't bother to listen) -Occasional celebrity visits to Twitter (Amy Schumer, Tom Hanks, Hilary Clinton, Jim Cramer, Jimmy O. Yang, Lloyd Blankfein, etc.) -Up to $1500/year to attend tech conferences -Reimburses you for further education materials (buying technical books, etc) -Internal tech class you can sign up for and take during work hours (like being in college) -free subscription to safari books (O’Reilly), subscription to blinkist -free Theory Coffee -Team quarterly offsites -Ping pong table, video game arcade area -Music jam room (specially insulted room, and instruments are provided) -Free company shuttles from South Bay to Peninsula up to SF -Discounted parking, pre-tax commuter benefits -Btw, Twitter has been profitable for some time now TC: 370k, YOE: 7 @Twitter peeps: any other benefits I left out?
At Oscar dinner to go is $20. But definitely some of the benefits are not comparable to Twitter else.
Amy Schumer is a celebrity now?
Uber's lunch is great - we have huge mass of dry and bland chicken everyday in lunch and they even manage to name it differently everytime. We have beers too, but but..only on fridays after 5 p m !! Btw if you are vegeterian, we have full platter of either tofu or brocolli and rice - every single day. At palo alto office, dinner ... what dinner? Sorry only lunch. For breakfast we have lot of choices among bread, peanut butter and umm...thats it. We dont give believe in shuttles for employees but hey we have last mile free, no free commuter passes, no 401k contribution sorry.
Cons: have to work on Twitter
I don't see the cons. List them if you know any?
Do you want to work on one of the single most useless apps/websites? Will that actually make you feel good about yourself?
Add free safari books (O’Reilly ), blinkist, Philz Coffee, ergonomic work environment and consultation if needed.
What was a senior software engineer bonus before? I heard you don't get refreshers every year there. Is that true?
10%. Well what is the point of refreshers? We have this now: “No more 4 year cliff. Assuming no promotions or raises, in your 5th year at Twitter you will at least make as much as your 1st year” In most companies your TC drops ~50% (the so called “cliff”) after 4th year
If you get refreshers every year, your TC will keep going up until the end of the fourth year. Even with the cliff, the refreshers will probably bring you to what you made in the beginning of year 1. Even if there is a big cliff, you could just jump ship for higher TC and a new grant. At twitter, if I'm understanding it correctly, assuming no raises or promotion and besides stock appreciation, you'll be making the same from year 1-4. By the end of year 4, I'll be making the same as year 1. I wouldn't be happy if my TC 4 years later is the same.
Refreshers every year? I’ve a Twitter offer and thinking of joining.
There is no concept of refreshers but annual compensation cycle changes where your manager evaluates your current stock grant and grants you more based on your performance improvements. So not a fixed amount of refreshers but a variable amount at managers discretion
Forgot to add, really good training sessions for leadership, individual development. I think the largest perk is to working at the twitter scale. A minor improvement or a fix moves the metric needle so much.
And I'm sitting here grateful we have free vending machine snacks. Does having 2 other floors to go to when the same 8 people take 20+ mins in the 2 bathroom stalls on our floor count as a benefit? Benefits are foreign to us.
Be happy. We have to pay for vending machine snacks
