Asking for a friend, does anyone know what a good skill set around coding would be in regards to computer forensics? My initial input was it sort of depends on the System you forsee your self working with, and mentioned that for Windows C#/Powershell are likely to be your primary tools. For Apple/Linux and mobile devices, likely Java/Bash? Any other input here?
This depends largely on the role. If it was for a Forensics Analyst, then typically you're provided with analysis tools that you use on artefacts on Windows/Linux devices. And it'd definitely help if you know how to code to automate the manual stuff. I'd say Python is a good candidate, as it's got lots of libraries for security related coding. However, if you were hired as a software engineer to help the Forensics Analyst with automation, then you need to be able to code.
