I'm really concerned with the population increase... By 2025, we're poised to overtake China. We already have water problems, and the gap between the rich and poor are too great. More violence will happen and the gender ratio is high on the male side. Commute is terrible. Bangalore commute to just go 10 kilometers takes about 1 hour at least. It's worse than Bay area and LA combined. Building infrastructure is mostly shit. Beijing, Tokyo, and Singapore are levels beyond what Bangalore, Chennai, or Hyderabad can offer. We've done so poorly in the Olympics even if we have so many people. Where's the upside to this? We have a younger population, but I'm looking at all my 20 yr old cousins in India and they're all bums...
Overtake China : )
In the number of illiterates we have? Yes.
Olympics ..hmmm
Until law and order is fixed nothing is going to improve
Why you care? You left India for US. Just worry about your new home country USA....
A more interesting question is why do you not care? You and most of your countrymen. Clearly you don't care about anything as evidenced by the company you choose to work for.
k...if you like your country of birth then go back and improve.... be loyal and faithful to home country USA. We have enough problems in USA. Try to assimilate here.
Too much of democracy and limitless freedom in any highly diverse society is dangerous. Unfortunately, only India falls under such a category and hence failure is certain. There is only one solution - stringent governance by a dictator, like in China or any Islamic countries.
Yeah, despite the argument for lack of freedom and too much control of Chinese government holds, the efficiency and scale it operates in development is ridiculous. Can read more into the extremely ambitious 5 year plans.
What are you doing about it, other than posting on Blind?
Our family has bought 5 properties in Chennai and 1 in Bangalore. We lease them out to families and businesses and manage them as best as we can and offer money to make the community safer and cleaner. What have you done?
Lol all of us have properties that we make money from and we have donated to our communities as well, so relax. That doesn’t make India any better. What have you done to make INDIA better? You’re just like any other Indian that complains but is too scared to leave a comfortable life. Why don’t you stay in one of your 6 houses, make some friends, gather support and run for the local election? Your 20 year old ‘bum’ cousins are probably doing something more for India than you ever can.
7% gdp growth doesn’t mean anything?? If we compare what India was in 1947 and what we are now in 2019, the change is immense especially when you consider the size and diversity of the democracy. If people in 1947 had just sat with negativities like you, this progress would not have happened. Yes India needs improvements in all the aspects you mentioned. Try to contribute rather than just complaining. For example if people in late 80s and early 90s had not done economic liberalization you would likely be in India working for a petty ‘khandani’ businessman, and say unemployment would be very high. And in general the wealth gap, pollution, climate change, some violent outbursts are the problems faced by the world, not just India.
7% GDP growth is shit if you consider the GDP per capita is an abysmal 1,900 USD. And nobody cares about the size and diversity of democracy if there are no results to show for.
Unless you have a ‘pragmatic’ plan that can implement a GDP growth of > 7% that suits the abysmal per capita, your words only seem like complaints. Per capita GDP was 10 times lower, say about $200 when India got independence. $1900, I see is as an improvement.
I don't know if there is an upside of huge population. As Sadhguru says, when situation around you is dire, it is even more important to maintain your own sanity and sweetness. I don't pretend to know if dictatorship or democracy will solve anything, the first step I see is to not use the population as an excuse to denigrate one's own character, and make it a dog-eats-dog world. Only by rising above the situation (means not letting the situations dictate what one thinks is right) and pulling others above, can we hope for a better tomorrow.
Nice...but what should we do immediately?
I don't know. My vision and impact is limited to my locality. The problem you describe is a national problem. I guess, maybe listen to few people, decide what makes sense, and follow their solutions. We all don't need to come up with our own solutions. It's as important to follow other people too. I personally find people like Sadhguru inspiring. Indians aren't a completely hopeless group of people. IMO, we just need good leaders, and a will to follow them.
Bigot. Go spew your venom somewhere else.
