Not seeing lot of posts on company culture and compensation. How is the company doing? What is the TC for a mid to senior level Software Engineer?
They are pretty small. Less than 200 engineers is what I heard. Confluenters can feel free to correct me here. Them not being on blind may be a positive.
There are a few of us here on blind. < 200 is accurate. I’m less than 1 year in, but great place so far (good team, good technical challenges, good business success). Don’t really want to mention comp details, but I’d definitely say competitive (obviously lower cash than public companies, but solid upside)
Appreciate the response. How is the future looking 1-2 years down the line? Do you see it going public? Could you elaborate more on "Upside" in comp?
Right now future is looking good. I think we are well on track to being a public company, but timing is always hard (I hope within 2 years, but too many factors to know that confidently). As for upside, I just mean that from what I see, if we have even a reasonable exit, the payout would be significantly higher than pretty much any big company offer , though obviously with some risk.
Been here several years. Honestly it's probably the best job I'm ever going to have. Working with the caliber of engineers at the very best of engineering firms but with a small enough scale to actually work with them all regularly. (How many people actually get to work with Jeff Dean regularly? Meanwhile I talk to Jay, Neha and Jun all the time.) TC is competitive but the work itself is where it's really at. I think of it this way: we're trying (and succeeding in a lot of ways) to out-cloud the cloud itself.
Can you please throw some pointers as to how you intend to out-cloud the cloud
+1, wouldn't AWS MSK, Azure Event Hubs, or GCP Dataflow be the market leaders in the long term?
Really no, we can run on all the cloud providers as well as on prem, and can offer a unified experience and API everywhere. We are also working with those same cloud providers to offer a low cost product that's even cheaper than what they offer. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if one of them bought us before we can IPO
This. We're hitting cloud hard. Google Cloud is even selling our shit for us, https://console.cloud.google.com/marketplace/details/confluent-saas/confluent-cloud?pli=1
