I went through the process with a few companies this last SDE job search, ended up getting the run-around from Google's HC, so I accepted a solid offer from a well-known tech company and pushed out the start date. Apparently my G recruiter was able to pull something off and I got an offer from them in the eleventh hour before my official start date. I'd have to renege on the other company at this point to go G, and the difference in comp doesn't seem to be huge. Thoughts? Things I'm missing? 4 YOE. Current accepted offer: Private company, SDEII Salary $155k Sign on Bonus $50k Target bonus 0-20%, roughly 13% average according to recruiter LTIP (private company here) $46.5k The team fit here is quite good given my past experience. Google Offer, L3: Salary $125k Sign on $50k Target 15% ish Equity $175k/4 yr Should I push G for more somewhere? The offer doesn't seem strong enough as is to get me to renege. What would it take for you to renege and accept an offer from G? Are there some consequences to reneging I'm not seeing? Obviously I'd be blacklisted there but hey that's the game.
Go to Google.
Ask G to match offer then renege
If you work at G for a few years, that private company would again contact you to hire as a senior. The other way may not work when G slows down hiring. The interview will be more difficult
G for sure
Not Indeed, but good memory ;)
Google. After I got Google on my resume I never had to worry about finding another job. Recruiters just keep contacting you even when you are not looking. After 3 years at Google I interviewed, got a huge raise and joined Uber.
The Google offer doesn't strike me as exceptional. Are you considering reneging just because of Google's name? Fit is more important I think. Here's my take... You got into Google once... You can get there again. Even within the same year without reinterviewing if it comes to that. Follow your heart.
Name is part of it, and the benefits (health, random nonsense, food, 401k) are all generally better than my current company, though the numbers don't change despite this. I'm mostly considering reneging because it's G, let's be real.
If you go (or stay) somewhere primarily because of benefits you'll likely have a bad time. But it sounds like you made up your mind. Are you just looking for confirmation it's the right move? You'll find plenty of people that'll tell you it is, and you can ignore the ones that don't.
