I have an onsite invitation from Amazon. I have an offer from a smaller tier 2 company. I may or may not get into Amazon. I am bored of interviewing so I am considering bailing on the onsite. So my question is Can any amazonians comment on how the pip thing works? how bad it really is? Also people from MS who have made the jump how are you guys doing. Do you like where you are now? I’ve been doing like shit for last 8 months and still no PIP. It’s not easy to get fired tbh.
Your manager is keeping you.
Moved from MS to Amzn. Best decision ever: less politics, less bullshit, you work and you are good. If there is a conflict, just say "disagree and commit" for a fall or cite customer satisfaction issues. Salary IS better! I do not care about perks, never used them in MS so my increase in base was good. AH THERE ARE CLEAR GUIDELINES ON WHAT TO DO TO GET NEXT LEVEL! that's a change, right? PIP- dono, we need to put 1 guy on PIP and my manager just hesitates and gives him more chances, so Id say not to strict.
so does every team have a mandatory guy on pip at all times?
Both great companies. Both have warts. WLB is the same, Amazon has politics and low performers as MSFT does. Amazon has good and bad managers, as msft does. Spend your time finding the team and role you want at any company that’s going to be best for you. Comp is higher, in my experience, it causes people to make bad decisions.
Do you have any team recommendations? I would reveal the team I am interviewing for, but that would make it easy to dox me.
Hey, I’m looking for SDEs for my team. Send me a msg if interested. Super chill work schedule, almost no on call load and I involve the engineers in setting schedules 👍🏼
I have a friend who joined as a college grad and was put in PIP in just 6 months. Awesome part is he got an offer from google before he was terminated from amazon.

It's really all about your manager, not your performance. No matter how well or bad you perform, if your manager is good he can keep out out of PIP. Many really high performers got PIPed because of their terrible managers.
Oh no,,, they do make mistakes on hirings and those people are getting piped and laid off regardless how nice your manager is. I've seen two cases: one person got piped after three months he joined the company. He couldn't defend and was laid off. Another one's level got lowered after he got piped.
As it should be!
