Should I get a job at the Big 3 consulting firms or Accenture if I'm a SWE trying to move into PM?
Big 4 opens different possibilities. Tier 2 do not. You will need to be in strategy consulting... not IT consulting. And then you may realize that there are many ways to your goal and maybe being PM isn't it. So think bigger than just being a PM
Internal transfer will be 100x easier
Lol no
Agreed with above. Consulting will teach you a set of habits that will be very obvious even in the PM interview. The internal notes from the interviewers will say things like 'doesn't get the details', 'weak on the tech', and 'too much consultant-speak'.
What is the big 4? FANG?
You'll need to unlearn consultant habits if you want to pass PM interview at FANG.
Son, Factors to consider: 1. Skills 2. Preference: Do you like to just strategize and not execute? If yes, join consulting or do bizOps. 3. Future goals: Do you want to stay relatively poor? If yes, then go to consulting long term. Ex-Mckinsey Chief Gupta traded on insider info at the end of his life for getting out of his relative poverty šš¤£ Join a good growth tech firm if you want to retire early. Also, don't work for anyone else if you want to retire rich. š
What if you want to strategize and execute? Would that be a cloud or infra solutions engineer? Are you saying that if you have consultant in your title you wonāt have opportunities to do engineering?
Dude even McKinsey people donāt transition to PM. Make a move internally and donāt waste time at tier 2 firms
