Consumer protection laws for stocks

I bought quite some UBER stocks about 5 weeks ago at $45 (about 7000 shares). In the last few days I have changed my mind about Uber and no longer want these shares. This is mainly due to the ethical concerns I have about Uber’s business model. Is there a way I can return the shares I have and get a refund?

There should be some consumer protection laws around this, right?
Please let me know how I can proceed.

I don’t have the receipt but you can see the buy order in the broker’s monthly statements

But I paid 315k for my purchase. I am hoping to get what I paid, which is only fair. It’s still within 2 months that most businesses accept a return.

You spent $315k on lottery tickets, all with the same number.

Yes you will get a return. I infact did that with Lyft. I got full refund within 90 days. Lyft is a nicer company so they gave new a refund, I am not sure about Uber.

You have to call up SEC, and then NASDAQ to fill up a 3 page form. Takes about a week to get the full refund at initial purchase price.

Now why did you change your post to $45? Clearly you must be making this up

@pinkyellow It’s completely up to the broker how to fill your order if you submit too high of an ask. My broker was nice enough to not pocket the entire difference

Hehe...had the Uber share prices been up now to $70, will you still opt for this return ? Just wash your face and come out of the dream.

If you paid with your credit card then you might be covered

So you dropped $399,000 on a single transaction? I probably won't even save that much in my lifetime. You could have done better just loaning it to me at 1% APR.

Uber stock was like $35 five weeks ago. You’re clearly lying.

  • Investing is risky. When you purchase stocks you assume the risk of losing money. There is no "I change my mind and want my money back" with stocks. Sell your shares and move on

My comment isn’t helpful. Yet - why wouldn’t you look up the business model before investing?

Sorry, the law only protects you when management lies to shareholders. The law doesn’t protect you from your own ignorance.

Other than making sure stocks are in decent shape, returning would be straight forward. After all you are still within 2 months period like you said. Make sure to give them a 5star rating on Yelp for good customer service.

This isn’t one would brag on Blind - some of us flip 2+ mil houses on the Seattle’s Eastside to those suckers a couple of times a month. Old fart money plus modern age TC does the magic.

You can join one of those class action lawsuits that am sure will be filed soon. But you aren’t getting you money back unless stock goes up. You did not buy some product you want to return now. You invested into business, should have done research before hand
