Would you leave a company for the politics associated with your role? I work for a company where orgs whom I interact with are sometimes at ends with each other and it’s taking a bit of a toll. I don’t do well with politics. Role is in ops and TC is not enough for the headache. The only thing holding me back from leaving is not really having anywhere to go to and really, their ops team would be badly bruised. A lot of what I’ve learned from startup life is try not to leave em hanging — most blind TC/GTFO posters will not be able to relate. Not sure if at all that makes sense but have at it if you will. Thanks in advance! Also wanna give a shoutout to Blind (new here) — have been enjoying the threads — lots of great insight, touchy topics and funny ass comments. I am a lurker and I really appreciate when more senior folks get into it on here. ✌️
I’d have liked to hear a little more specifics to be able to provide a perspective. Also not sure where you are in your career history and trajectory. But, if you don’t have anything lined up and feel bad about leaving them hanging, I’d say wait a bit. Politics is everywhere and it’s worse in large companies IMO. Try to learn as much as you can including headachy situations. You can always reference this when you are asked an interview question in the future “Tell me about an example where you had to navigate a challenging situation” ;)
Leave or stay and get burnt out. As far a the team "being badly bruised" dont kid yourself you're completely replaceable and no one will think twice. If you are up for relocating then then start putting out feelers and take a job search seriously to see if you really want to go and can do better. Be warned however there are politics everywhere....
Yeah it's more the timeline. I'm also getting the feeling that I have a finite window to make this decision. Could all be speculative
I’ve worked at a startup and experienced the same politics (did not see it personally at bigger companies, but team dependent). I would evaluate if the politics are a product of top-down leadership style (long-term and hard to escape) or if it’s a temporary misunderstanding between people due to lack of orgs, lack of structure, lack of clarity (short-term and can be solved). My previous experience was due to leadership culture which is why I ultimately left. 3 years after leaving, my old teammates say it is still the same behaviors there. And +1 to the comment that you won’t leave people hanging. They’re used to people coming and going in startups so don’t worry about that piece.
Seems pretty simple. If you don’t have anywhere to go, then suck it up, stick it out and try to effect change. I can relate to something like this and best thing I can tell you is, life’s tough, figure it out, don’t run from your problems. In the grand scheme of things ‘this toll’ is really not that bad.

Unfortunately, politics is found everywhere. I'm looking to leave a role I enjoy because I spend my time building products and I'm not more political in the department. It sucks and there's nothing you can do about it.
