I'm facing a bit of a quandary. I was recently offered a 6-month contract role at Amazon. I would be leaving my fulltime role (but w/ no benefits other than vacation) for a contract job that may or may not end in 6 months. Contract is not ideal, but it would allow me to move into the UX field and make some connections within Amazon. Told my boss yesterday, and she counteroffered to match the salary. I have decent WLB, good boss, but don't love the work and want to try UX. Oh, and my resume is a bit of a job hopper (nothing past two years). So I'm worried about my hireability after just 6 months at Amazon. Stay or leave?
Is it direct hire?
Amazon will be a turbulent ride.
How'd you get a contract offer? Also have no love for my current work and looking to break into UX
• Which team is the role on? • Do most contracts convert to hire? • If you are unhappy with the work you do it may be worth it.
• Alexa • There's a chance for that, but no guarantees. They didn't say anything about past hires.
Everyone is looking to get into UX right now, so if you think it’s something you’d succeed in then it may be worth the risk. But if you’re worried about being able to do the work then maybe not.
