I signed a 9 month contract at Amazon. My coworker was let go around 6 months into it with no notice. Is this common practice? Are contractors just dispensable to these companies?
What does the contract you agreed to say?
Well all of the contracts have an at will statement that they can let you go whenever. So I don't think they are going against the contract. I just feel that they make the time an arbitrary thing.
That is the whole point of an at-will termination clause. Why would they want to pay for you to do nothing?
Yes, this is why companies use contractors, to let them go when we they are done with the task they were hired to do.
It’s a shark pit shit show.

That ^^ is 100% why tech companies use contractors.
