Contract to Hire Offer from Cox Automotive in Atlanta

Hey Fellows, I have an offer for contract to hire from Cox Automotive in Atlanta. However the contract part is thru a third party vendor. The duration is 4 months on contract and if they like me they will convert. The third party recruiter asked me what to I expect as full time salary and I told them 150K. However Cox is not giving me this in writing rather saying that we have noted what you want but we will discuss the FT salary when the time comes to convert you. I feel like there is a red flag here. Any help ? The contract part is $90/hr which is pretty good for a 6 yr exp software engineer. Usual rates are 75/hr. Thank You

They want to be able to low-ball you later on, in hopes that you’ll accept. Check what they pay on Glassdoor.

The whole point of contract to hire is so that they can try you out and see if they like you. So they can't set your salary until they've seen you on contract. But there's no telling whether they will try to lowball when the time comes.

Cox is one of the most dishonest and low balling company out there ....they may be setting false hopes just so that they can get some short term work out of you. 150K is very high for them and unless you are being considered for some senior management position I doubt if they will pay that much.

Thank you for your help. Glassdoor says 125 is the max they pay so I had my doubts.

I worked for another department of Cox so I can tell you that regardless of whatever Glassdoor says, they do pay that much if they really liked you. But Cox is a HUGE company and salaries varies a lot by which division you work for and location. So don’t take my word for it.If you think job profile is good and you see career growth, you should take it. It’s just a nature of the game, there is a risk but then you always can find a better job if they don’t match your expectations in future. Don’t think too much. I also think strongly recommend to look at public companies as Cox doesn’t have rsus stock etc. Take the offer, keep looking at public companies, you got nothing to lose.

Cox HR holds things very tight to the vest. They will not give you anything in writing at this point. They will give you fair market rate on your salary. I would ask more info. to get a firmer verbal commitment. I had the same scenario. They came in close to what they told me verbally but it was a little lower than what I was told.

Let me try to get something verbal from HR. Right now my third party wont let me talk to the HR directly or the manager or anyone.

I spoke to COX and they said we can extend the contract to six months with no verbal or written confirmation. I accepted it worst case 90/hr ain’t bad with a 6 month contract.

I know 150K is a bit stretch but recently for another req they were going till 165k. Similar profile. I did not get that job though.
