Contracting - Apple Vs Google

I did worked as a contractor in both Apple and Google . Anyway Contractors are treated like second class citizens in almost all the companies in Bay Area. But I saw a huge difference between Apple and Google . Apple: Not even a cafeteria in the contractors buildings . No company provided laptop . Pathetic parking lot..horrible restrooms..lucky to have toilet paper in the restrooms ..99% of the contractors are H1bs and from Infosys , Accenture, Wipro, CTS and all are from the out sourcing companies ..will run into thousands easily ..almost 10 buildings in arques occupied by contractors ..FTE think they are God and treat contractors like shit .. Google : The same crap work you do here ..better pay rates ..contractors are allowed to eat in the cafeteria .. almost all the free stuff provided to employees are provided to the contractors too..pretty decent workplace setup..contractors treated with respect ..so far no outsourcing companies ..heard HCL and Infosys got some projects in IT ..no major complaints working as a contractor in google . Anyone worked as a contractor in Apple and google ? can share your experience ?

I did some contracting in Apple. You are 100% correct about the experience in Apple.

Got a friend contracting at Apple, basically it's like a prison there.

Did quite the opposite at Apple. I cucked my manager and FTE team members, doing pretty much whatever I wanted to.

That reminds of what Larry Page once said about companies ..“don’t be evil” ..so it seems he sticks with his words ..:)

I work with some contractors, all from HCL, and I treat them like FTE

To my knowledge only contractors in IS&T are treated poorly as you describe. Contractors in other teams work alongside their teams in the same building. In my team, contractors are invited to team events (not to org level events though).

Getting a job as an FTE in Google or Apple is not as simple as getting a job in a random company like TCS or Infosys with a pay of 3L per year, being picked up in H1B lottery, packing bags and coming to the US, and updating Facebook and LinkedIn profiles with titles like "Software engineer at Google"! People put in lot of hard work to earn whatever they have and if you feel you deserve it, go earn it.

I asked the contracting experience between Apple and google and not becoming a FTE ..I have been doing consulting in Bay Area from 1997..I have my own C Corp and I used to employ few people before ..I still remember for a POC I got 650$ per hour for a 3 week assignment ..the rates used to be anywhere from 150$-250$ per hr till 2008 ..after the financial crisis in 2008 the consulting market came down big time ..just check how these Indian companies abuse the H1b system..they pay 60k to 70k for their employees..abuse to the core..just wait for the next recession and your job will be moved to India ..mark my words and I have seen this happen in 2002 and 2008 ..this is the result of capitalism ..enjoy until your company make billions in profits..once the Opex goes up ..the first step is cutting down the headcount ..I expect a recession later in 2019 or definitely in Q2/Q3 of 2020..

Sounds reasonable. I think we both are kinda saying the same. These Indian body shop companies sucks! I hate them!!
