After I didn’t get an offer from google, i was told to wait a year before applying again (this was a few months ago). Just recently I was reached out by a third party contracting company regarding a contractor position at google, but am I supposed to notify them about my attempt from a few months ago?
If your goal is G, don’t take a contractor position.
Why do you say so? Do contractors never become FTE?
Only take contract work if it’s crazy pay or you don’t have other options. They can let you go without problems after the contract ends
I took a shit contractor position because i was transitioning from non-tech work. It definitely helped me get a full time tech job elsewhere.
At Google? Were you asked about contract or full time?
Tvcs get converted to ftes sometimes. Take the contract, it gives you plenty of advantages next time you apply for FTE You will learn internal tools, will know a lot more about google than if not After 6-12 months reapply
There's a nice backdoor in going from contractor to FTE at Google, however. Just be very open about your goal with the teams you work with (not the contractor managers). And you're not treated like shit. There's just legal requirements regarding classification they have to follow.
OP, would you be a Temp or a Vendor? Is this for a Tech or Business role? Vendors are never converted to FTE. Temps are ocassionally but very rarely in Eng. No need to mention the interview. They don't know and won't really care.
My last team we had a Contractor who would've converted in a snap, but h1b issues complicated things.

You don't need to notify anyone.
Whats the usual pay for SWE contractor at Google?
Think it's a different process so I wouldn't worry about it, you aren't technically employed by Google That being said, as a contractor in tech you'll be treated as a second-class citizen
Is it a bit looked down upon when people hear that you were contracted when doing interviews?
Less that and more your actually experience while working there will be markedly worse Contractors generally get the shit work, have no job security, are underpaid, and don't get the same benefits as FTEs
