Deal. On a related note, how about all supporters of the heartbeat abortion ban abstain from sex?

Microsoft Hyad70 OP May 17, 2019

There is zero connection between those two issues.

Intel babubhatt May 17, 2019

Between sex and unwanted pregnancies? Are you sure?

AC pollutes on own no matter if it is powered by renewable

OpenTable Meliodas May 17, 2019

How so?

Amazon šŸ™ƒ+ May 17, 2019

My electric bill is on average ~$0. Why can't I use AC?

Google hdjskfhe May 17, 2019

I don't have AC, not hard to give it up.

Microsoft Hyad70 OP May 18, 2019

Do you live in San Francisco? If so, of course.

Google hdjskfhe May 18, 2019

Boulder, I'm mostly being a smart ass. I used to live in Texas and had AC but in the last 3 years I've also never had an electricity bill that used over 200kwh

What sort of environmental impact does forums being polluted with conservative straw-men arguments have? Buying special light bulbs and riding a bike were the liberal answers to climate change. The Green New Deal, however, is focused on structural changes, not liberal personal-morality environmentalism. (Probably why it scares both the right and centrists.) Itā€™s the right step towards actually addressing these issues unlike conservative denial and liberal thumb-twiddling. (Also, i donā€™t have AC... just go to the movies to mooch their AC when itā€™s too hot. I though it was conservatives who liked to complain that low-income Americans are spoiled if they have AC.)

Microsoft Hyad70 OP May 18, 2019

You must lead a sheltered life. Each personal decision adds up to the sum total impact. Mooching AC from the theater isn't impact free - unless you live next door, you get in the car/Uber and burn gasoline, versus streaming the movie off Netflix. Having children brings more carbon-consuming people to the planet for 80+ years. Taking a plane from NY to Washington, versus Amtrak has an impact - AOC. So, keep on burning hydrocarbons and think the liberal elite can legislate us to a cleaner cooler climate and that you don't need to make any personal changes.

Sorry, iā€™m not a liberal. I donā€™t think structural problems can be solved by various random individual choices and ā€œmoralā€ consumption. Canvas bags, specialty foods and Teslaā€™s bought by random yuppies does nothing to offset pollution by companies or larger structural things like car-based infrastructure and urban development.
