Someone started a usergroup here for learning python using coursera, i joined it because i figured I could help mentor folks, was curious. Started an ibm certification course for data science Do these certifications actually mean anything anywhere?

Certifications don't matter in an interview if you can't answer their questions. If you learned and used that learning in interviews then its all worth it. TL;DR no one will give you a job based on certifications but you can improve yourself by self learning from all MOOCs.
Well i mean from a getting the interview standpoint
