Are cover letters still commonplace to include with a resume? What about at FAANG companies? What about including a profile section or hobbies? Sorry ;) Current TC: Midwest. 105k. Data analytics/BI. Consulting company.

Never wrote a cover letter. Can't get past the CV screen at Google. Got F offer though so...
Don't do it. It makes you look outdated.
Some tier2-3 still do ask you to send in cover letter but otherwise no need for that effort anymore. I donāt waste time....
Canāt recall ever seeing one at Amazon and Iāve hired dozens of people. Doubt anyone would read it tbh.

My opinion: no cover letter, no shit on your resume that isn't relevant for the job you are applying to
