Are you only given a second phone interview if you did poorly on your first one, or is two just the norm?
We’ve been moving to 2 tech phone screens as standard for some groups.
Nop I had second phone interview as well. I did really well on my first. However my second one was a system design question. I didn't expect that since they sent a coderpad link and all. Was unable to do well in the system design over phone without a white board. Also didn't practice a lot for this. Got rejected. So prepare for system design just in case.
Which groups, GM Spy? Nice handle
Did recruiting not tell you/prep you the process/number of screens?
They said the second call may or may not happen depending on how it goes.
That sounds like a two step process then onsite. Pass first screen, move to second screen, pass second screen, move to onsite.
Different numbers of interviews for different people. If you haven't been rejected yet, you still have a chance (obviously).

What was your first phone interview, a Tech one?
Yes
2nd one means you passed the first! What did the Tech interview cover? They recruited me awhile back but I got hired before I was able to take their tests/interviews.
