Cruise employees themselves don’t know the answer, it’s mystery to us all. How can a company which is acquired already, become private again? And how can you value something which produces zero revenue? These are the questions keeping me up at night.

Don't they tell you what SoftBank valued it at? Saw it at 11B.

And see that Google is doing the same thing with Waymo and Verily.

$11B is pre SoftBank funding valuation. No one knows about Post-money valuation.

You are too young to be that negative.

A spin off is a legitimate thing that could happen to a company that has been once acquired.
And lots of things that produce no revenue have value. Look at zynga, they still have their building.

If they acquire 19.6% for 2.25B that's 11.5B pre money, and 13.75B post money. You add on funding to valuation. Am I missing something here?

Or are you using those terms as what they currently value it as internally instead of last funding round?

How company valuation matters in your decision? You are being offered $250k worth of RSUs. Doesn't matter if company is worth $10B or $100B.

If that was the case most people should never leave comfortable jobs for unicorns. Money is probably one of the biggest factors in deciding the next role.

Twitch dude is correct. Valuation doesn't matter. Think about the future potential of the company, not about the current valuation.

Your decision should be based on your current stock price, which is $250k. Future valuation doesn't matter as long you believe in company's potential.

So when will your RSUs be liquid? Will Cruise do their own IPO?

For your answer looks like 11b is the valuation you are getting your shares at. 43b is just speculation by someone.

43B is my speculation. Also I speculate ATG becomes our interns.

    • Uber / Eng bag
I didn’t say the speculation is wrong. I am just mentioning that his shares are coming to him at 11b valuation. So if the Cruise reaches 43b his shares will rise approx 4 times. I for one, am a big believer in self driving tech and that it will have a huge value when it works.

43b for cruise? Remember Uber only being valued at 72b (the highest no matter which one you pick) which has substantial revenue and multi-modal business and ATG and global presence, and people already think it’s crazy, and cruise has demonstrated nothing and has a valuation of 43b?

Remember when you weren’t having a scandal and hemorrhaging money? It’s cool to like your company I don’t fault you for that but being a fan boy of uber is kinda sad bro. Hope you’re making enough dough to compensate for your dignity. Lolz OMG BURNZ up in here

    • Uber am no one
My point is not whether I like Uber or not, or even anything related to Uber, just for a comparison, and try to understand what’s the logic behind cruise’s 43b valuation, it may make sense if you’re number one in SDC, but apparently Waymo is ahead of everyone, so no offense regarding your company, let’s talk about logic

All of GM market cap is 50B. So Cruise cannot be worth much more than 10B.

Bdkp87 - the value of cruise is fully incorporated in GMs market cap since they fully own it. In general the self driving tech has been decreasing in value as realism over adoption challenges overtook early optimism. My guess is 4-8B is the valuation window

@ unicorn, they're not fully owned by GM since they took Softbank money. Fortune reported SoftBank stake to be 19.6% of company.

Am I looking at this wrong, or wouldn’t RSUs in a private entity be a really bad thing to have? Illiquid unless they have a buy-back plan, and you get the tax burden right when they vest. Wouldn’t options make a lot more sense?
    Aug 6, 2018 2
    • Box / Eng Gqwx32
Does it also apply to RSUs from Uber, Airbnb, etc?
      Aug 6, 2018
    • Facebook / Mgmt AsdfFdsa?
Yes. If there’s no liquidity, and you don’t know what the market price will end up being (or if they’ll ever be liquid), you’re stuck with a potentially huge tax bill on something you can derive no value from.

That’s why most companies give options until they’ve IPOed.

Cruise’s valuation is 11.5 billion dollars, and that is what your equity grant will be locked in at. Business Insider saying that Cruise is worth 4x that is just an article.
