Feeling burned out...I enjoyed the challenge at AWS, just so stressful...I would still like to stay at AWS, is there any team with good wlb? Work less than 40 hrs and less than 10 sev2 a week?
We have on Avg 3 sev2 every night...
I heard azure is very buggy. Honestly
You on a service team?
This is all up to you not the team. Amazon will let you work as many hours as you want and there’s an endless amount of work you can do. It’s up to you to set your specific hours. The only caveat to this is if you’re on a rotation with barely any engineers so that you’re on call like 1 week a month. Personally I’d rather have a very busy on call rotation that isn’t often than a light on call often. When I started work at Amazon I would voluntarily work 12 - 16 hour days. Yeah I actually enjoyed the work and wasn’t asked to do that but I felt like that’s how much I needed to work to stay on top of everything. After a couple of years I said fuck that and started cutting my hours back to 8 a day and never opening my laptop at home unless I was on call. By the time I left I was really only working 6 hours a day and never from home. This was all within the same AWS org and I had the same leadership throughout the many years. I made TT most years (I think my first year may have been the only non-TT). This is all up to you to take control of your career and life. Amazon won’t help you but really they won’t get in your way either though it sometimes sounds like they will. Just make sure you set the appropriate expectations on projects and communicate early when there might be delays.
Which aws Org were you in?
