Tl;dr best tech companies to work for in DFW? I’m pretty much stuck in this City for at least another year or so but I need to find a new place to invest my time and talent. Current company is run by loons and the growth potential went from 10->2 overnight thanks to some restructuring. For context, I specialize in DevOps, can pick up anything backend, will maintain front end. TC 140k; YOE 2
If you know data science, tableau, Hadoop, then you can find jobs in Plano paying that much.
Hi there, Planning to move to Plano, TX in a few months. Any employers for java engineer yoe 20 any related roles would be good. Have lead and a management experience. What can I expect in terms of compensation? $140 for DFW sounds great for OP!
Define “Data Science” for me? These days it’s probably the most ambiguous position/role in our industry.
AWS has a Dallas office. So does G and Apple.
There arent offices of any importance. Good luck finding a decent SWE job in those offices.
Both fair points. I’ve talked to people who work in those offices and they all say it’s pretty much the company backlog. It’s not the hot stuff. Then again, I’m not really looking for hot stuff. I’m mostly looking for smart people, a challenge, a standing desk, 13” laptop, and freedom to architect the right solution instead of the fastest at a company with realizable goals to make profit.
Hit me up if you’re looking for a change.
You’ve been hit up.
May I get permission to hit? :-)
USAA has offices in Plano and is actively hiring. HMU if you want a referral.
Do you like working for USAA? Maybe tell us what the best and worst part is for you?
Pros: Great work/life balance, good benefits (8% 401k match, half price lunch, gym, etc), passionate about the mission, challenging work depending on the project. Cons: TC won’t be as high as your current level, hard to get to the top because of job tiers.
AWS has a huge presence in Dallas. Galleria area. 3 floors there IIRC. You can get $200K-$250K all in comp package. You may work a lot there tho too — many are on call often.
Google office is Network Engineers & Data Center Ops. Lots of PM jobs for that too. I know as I used to work there. I had a Data role and my boss quit and the new boss wanted everyone to be in MV. So I bounced.

Why are Americans obsessed with SUV?
First off, 140k with 2 yoe in dfw is fantastic. I'm not sure many companies can come close to that. Microsoft has a services office in dfw so it wouldn't exactly be engineering. More technical consulting and cloud solutions architect roles there. I believe salesforce also has a small office there. Not sure if they can match that TC though
Thanks. I work a little too hard but I really enjoy what I do. Anyways, yeah I’m not sure that Microsoft is the best bet unless it was remote. I’ve thought about consulting. It’d be fine for maybe a year or so.
Microsoft field roles can be remote depending on project and terms of employment. Can also require a lot of travel if you don't specify you only want remote
