Dark forest theory of the internet

Anyone heard of this? I’ve been thinking lately that this looks like the future of the internet in many ways. The theory is that the internet is analogous to a dark forest. When you get there, you see no signs of life. But that isn’t because no one lives there. It’s because everyone living there has learned that the predators come out in the darkness, and broadcasting yourself to the world is an inherently bad idea. Therefore people find freedom in their own close communities that are often hidden from everyone else.
