I did my Data Analyst internship at WB Games and I really enjoyed working in gaming industry. But due to my Visa scenario my internship did not get converted to fulltime. Since then I am trying to get into Gaming Industry but it's difficult to get in as most of the Data Analyst jobs require more than 2 years of professional experience. Can anyone guide me on How to get into Gaming Industry for Data Analyst or Entry level Data Scientist role with less than 2 years of experience? What skillset, projects I should include in my resume? It would be great if someone could provide guidance on above.
I have to say, good luck on finding something. When I started looking for a position, I got stonewalled everywhere. Everyone wanted 2 years (or more) experience to even get past the initial screening to get a phone interview. I ended up getting lucky in that an executive recruiter who happens to play EVE Online, who knew one of the project managers who also plays EVE Online happened to be looking for a Data Analyst. The result ended up with me getting a position thanks to having played for years in a (now old) MMO, and knowing how to do the API pulls and basic sorting, filtering, and general database-building activity. Sometimes it's got nothing to do with experience- sometimes it's happening to have had certain interests outside of work. You never really know what a recruiter/company may be looking at or for.
Thank you so much for putting this detailed message @AEbX28. For once I thought my post went unnoticed đ . Even if I get the 2 years experience that will be in the industry other than gaming and then gaming companies will ask preferred experience in gaming only. It's good to hear that through gaming you got the way into gaming industry. Hope I will also find some luck to land myself in this industry. It is truly said that you need some interests outside of work and some recruiters and employees even suggested going to PAX events for some extra way of networking. Thanks again for sharing your experience @AEbX28, it will surely help me in future. Meanwhile just gotta expand the network.
