I’ve been ds (product analytics) at fb for 3 yrs (currently ic5, TC ~230k), and wanting to explore outside opportunities, esp interested in roles at google. After reading the job description, I believe the product analyst DS role is most aligned with to my experience, but with some stretch I can also interview for the engineering DS role (I have ms in stats and some experience in ML). Can any googler share the difference between these two roles in terms of their compensation and types of work? I’d also want to know how many such opportunities exist in google sf/San Bruno offices, thanks!
I can also share what ds at fb is like if anyone is interested. FWIW my motivation of moving has more to do with commute (I live in sf where there aren’t many ds openings at fb)
Aren’t there Instagram openings in sf and ds ml roles at hq? Not worth starting from scratch in my mind if you are on a good trajectory from a ratings perspective
Yeah I’m considering sf openings but there aren’t many choices, so it’s worth exploring other companies as well.
How many years of experience do you have as an IC5?

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
engineering ds is better, but it’s more selective and requires different set of skills. Good luck
Do you have more specific info to share wrt difference in comps and types of work?
At FB a core ds engineer will get roughly same base as product ds, but double the equity. Google is probably similar.
