Data Scientist Question

I work in Demand Planning and work with a lot of excel spreadsheet models, analytics, historic data, trends etc

I am pretty good at it.

I do not have any programming experience and do not know R, Python etc

How can I move into the field of Data Science, is doing a couple of courses online good enough to crack interviews.

Definitely learn SQL if you dont already have proficiency. Either of Python or R (preferably Python) and some statistics.

High proficiency. If you can't whiteboard SQL and Python, you're not ready.

    • @DingleBell whiteboard meaning writing the queries on the whiteboard? Or like throwing your ideas in an algorithmic fashion on the whiteboard?

      12 total, 4 after Masters

    • I’m in the same boat as you are, I have about 8 yoe after Masters but of course I don’t work at Apple. the field of demand planning is changing take a look at job profiles for a planner at Walmart labs or Groupon it’s heavy on data science and ml side, I got an interview from Groupon all they asked was what ML algorithms do I use, what am I strong with Python or R etc and almost zero questions on demand planning experience itself
