Just got an interview with Uber lined up so wondering - How are the Data Scientist roles at Uber compared to FANG? Is the pay on par with data science roles at other big tech companies? What’s the interview format like?
Kinda screwed with pay. If you’re in it for the money I couldn’t recommend Uber unfortunately. I love my job but I have to start looking elsewhere to take care of my family.
At least you'll work on real world problems with immediate impact instead of A/B testing "engagement" metrics on a news feed.
That’s right. I genuinely love the work I do. The problem is I genuinely love providing a decent standard of living for my children more. It’s sad that I have to sacrifice one for the other. After four years everyone’s hiring salary is higher than mine including those getting hired at Uber. They gave me an adjustment of $0.01 last year. It was a slap in the face considering what I’ve done for the company. I’ve worked 16 hour days for months at a time to solve problems for this company and honestly I feel really disgruntled at this point. Stupid decisions are being made constantly. Nepotism and dumb ass, tech, fuckboys at every level. It’s become extremely political for all the wrong reasons. It’s a shame, what this company should have been but actually became instead.

They tend to pay a lot less, and try to really upsell you on equity valuation (e.g. “when we 10x you’ll be a millionaire!”) Interview process is fairly standard: product questions, coding, stats, etc.
How low is the pay? For example - what is a typical base for DS with 0-1 years experience?
