What’s it like working as a data scientist in consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, Bain & Co., KPMG etc? How is it different from DS roles in tech companies? What do they actually do?
I was at a startup which did consulting work mostly. They competed with these consulting firms and can confirm horrible wlb.

Why are Americans obsessed with SUV?
Tech companies have their own advanced DS teams. Many industries don't. Example - finance, insurance, healthcare industries lack DS expertise. So they outsource a ton of DS work to consulting firms. The learning is good and you can try a variety of projects from a variety of clients in a couple years but the wlb may be bad because you will be under the constant pressure to deliver things fast and develop good connections with the stakeholders, just a heads up.
