Dating in NY

After five years in SF I’m fed up with dating here (and the city/tech bubble in general tbh). I’m a 30 y/o guy, make good money, and am a paradoxically social introvert. Is NY really that much better for dating than SF? Why or why not?

New York Ciry has a great mix of people/professions. I love SF though. Try going to female meet ups like Girl Geek Dinners, tons of great/smart women at those.

Right, cause girls totally go to those dinners to get hit on.

Not to get hit on. To meet new and interesting people that could possibly turn into something else.
Guys need to learn how women work. We like a guy before we get in bed with them. We don’t just get “hit on” and we’re in. We need a bit more depth than that.

As a SF -> NYC transplant, I can confirm it is way better for dating here. No contest.

Is it just that the m/f ratio is more favorable for men there or is it something else?

M/f ratio is way more favorable, you're actually fairly unique if you work in tech, bigger variety of women, people aren't stuck up, etc

Combination of great ratio, men in NYC are shorter and less attractive so competition is not as keen, very attractive and smart successful women, high energy urban social scene, friendly outgoing people, SICK online dating scene.

Seattle and SF are absolute nightmares for single men.

^ what section x said. Online dating is great here, agreed. And the quality of women is definitely higher

In nyc, I routinely matched with women out of my league, and 90% of matches resulted in at least a first date. In Seattle, I've gotten around 15 matches total in a year, and nearly all of them ghosted or flaked. I'm actually better looking now than when I was in nyc due to losing weight and putting on more lean muscle. That's how big the difference is. NYC exists in an alternate space-time dimension from Seattle.

Generic tech drones are the norm in SF... at least in NYC you are unique.

What if someone is a software engineer at an HFT/algo trading hedge fund, are they perceived as a "finance bro" or a "tech guy"?

Around 8 million more people and and a better ratio of women to men. So yes.

Not even close. NYC is the best city for single men, bar none. Seattle and SF are the worst: bad ratio, low quality, weird people and culture, far less dynamic social scene.

Women here can be picky, makes it tough going for a generic tech drone trying to set itself apart.

I was surprised at how many beautiful women I saw in SF when I visited recently. But yeah, it still can't compare to NYC, LA, Chicago. Unreal how horrendous Seattle is.

  • Why date in NY when you can hit up the Taco Bell in Penn Station at 4am?
