Dear Apple engineers

In response to the "Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks" article. I'm honestly the biggest Apple fanboy — I have all the newest gadgets and I use literally every one of their products, and have been for the past several years. However, this is one thing that upsets me. The MacBook doesn't need less ports, it doesn't need to be thinner. I understand the thinning of the MacBook Pro from the 2012 model to the 2015 model (which is what I currently own, and in my opinion is the best Mac). But I definitely don't think it needed to get any thinner or lighter than that, especially if it's sacrificing ports or a good keyboard. IMO the 2015 MacBook Pro is the best Mac out there, mainly because of its beautiful retina display, perfect weight, and most importantly, a good keyboard. In 2018, I had to purchase the 2015 model just because the latest MacBook is a pure garbage. Dear Apple engineers, a lot of you are on Blind. Please tell, WHY THE F*CK ARE YOU DOING THIS ALL TO US? Tag Apple company. They are always interested in making things small, even their iPhone sales

Going thinner is the craze now days. Make your products as thin as possible, including the bezel around the display, is what most people want. Apple is actively trying to build a product that is what the majority of people want. My laptop keyboard is cherry mx and most of my classroom does not want to hear that. In my IT Javascript class there are a lot of Mac users and my C# class is dominated by Windows users. I'm the only one with full mechanical and nearly everyone else is a thin and light. Hate to tell you this but it's an era of laptop design.

Brand power for suckers like many of us. Apple knows their product will sell

I’m on the software side of Apple not the hardware side so I can only speculate. Fifteen years from now there are going to be laptops that are both much more powerful and slightly lighter than what we use now. It seems like humanity is only getting better at designing and manufacturing hardware. The “perfect weight” is zero. Maybe they did tests and the average consumers liked the thinner laptops more. You might find that you like the new keyboards better after using them for a while

"humanity"??? There are few folks doing this not entire humanity and you are talking as if these items are very cheap. All Apple products are expensive

I have the latest MacBook Pro at work. Honestly, I tried to get used to it. It just doesn't work. Seriously, I just can't wrap my head around how this shit passed the UX tests.

Okay? Have you ever thought that yours is one opinion of many? Just like you hate it, I really like it. I love how thin MacBooks are getting and want them to get even thinner. Also, I didn’t see it then, but now I see how genius the all usbc ports idea was. Plug in cables anywhere, no longer fiddling with what goes where and just a much better look overall

Don't get me wrong. USB-C everywhere is a good idea and I like it a lot. But there's no practical benefit that outweighs the shit ergonomics. Keyboard, touchpad, escape key, touch bar and now they want to go thinner. Jeez.

I agree, OP. MacBooks peaked at the last generation. I do appreciate that Apple is pushing the envelope with thin designs, but sacrificing usability made me switch to the Huawei matebook pro. Very happy with it so far, it’s the device Apple should have made. No MagSafe, defective keyboard, Touch Bar were all it took me to switch. Also, worth noting that MBP sales peaked in 2015. The could have literally kept the 2015 form factor and sales might not have dropped. And it would have saved a ton of money.

kinda agree 👍🏼
