I am thinking of joining LI as a SWE. However due to a mixture of reasons(some personal, some professional) I want to delay the starting date by a few months. Has anyone successfully delayed joining date at LinkedIn ? How long did you manage to postpone the date ? I am looking for some tips on how to convince HR to accept a delayed date, so please help out. LI folks any insights from you ? Everyone else is welcome to contribute ideas as well. P.S- it's not because of Visa issues.
Only reasons they might say no is if they have a immediate need (rare) or if they have budgeting constraints ( have to hire before eoy , etc)
Also depends on pipeline if they have other qualified candidates they can go to #2.
I was told you must join within two months after the acceptance of your offer.
I failed at this recently. My learnings: do not ask for more time, tell them 'i can only join in 3 months as I'm excited to wrap my current project before leaving. I understand if that doesn't work for you, but unfortunately it's the best I can do.'
You were trying to delay starting date by 3 months ? Did they say why they couldn't wait ?
I joined a little more than 2 months later after acceptance of the offer. I asked for it and recruiter was very welcoming. The reason was that I wanted to wait for some bulky vest event in my old company.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

Had a friend who did so at fb. It’s usually pretty easy if it’s not too long (couple months should be fine). Just talk with your recruiter.
