Anyone know any fun/reputable design competitions my company (not C1 anymore) could compete in? The main one I’ve found seems to be MUX Awards, which has panelists from top tech.

Aren’t design competitions these days a little silly? Like how would legit product design be judged in a meaningful way by a small panel of so-called experts? The beauty of product & UX design is that the real world determines whether or not your stuff is useful and valuable. And the real design challenge is reacting to unexpected user behavior and delivering against it accurately, and quickly. If there are design competitions that evaluate that, that’d be cool. But if it’s just designers trying to impress designers...I think we’re past that phase.
For the most part I agree, design competitions are kind of silly, for the reasons you mentioned — they evaluate design artifacts out of context and probably only at surface level (visual design). However, I was thinking this might be an interesting and easy way to promote some degree of public recognition in a design team, at my current work, that is heavily skewed on visual design and doesn’t get much praise internally. Ideally our research data would tell a compelling narrative on the value of design, but currently we don’t have much of that — which is something we need to fix.
Just realized we’ve actually chatted over email, and I owe you a response 🤣 my apologies for the delay. Holidays and travel etc etc etc
