We’ve been fighting to get better dev equipment for a while now and I think it’s finally happening. The windows machines were so slow that they are completely refreshing them. Macs apparently are just getting a bump in ram. Which got me thinking... What are the specs for everyone else? Do your machines suck too? Old dev specs: * Windows (i5-7300u 2.5/3.1GHz 16GB DDR3) * macOS (i7-8750H 2.2/4.1GHz 16GB DDR4, Radeon Pro 555X) New dev specs: * Windows (i7-8850H 2.6/4.3GHz, 32GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 1050) * macOS (i7-8750H 2.2/4.1GHz, 32GB DDR4, Radeon Pro 555X)

Might want to check my comment. ;)
Oh shit. I’ll update it. Got the rest of the specs???
In office, iMac pro with dual 5k lg displays. 8-core Intel Xeon W 3.2/4.2GHz 32 GB DDR4 RAM Vega 56 GPU 1TB SSD On the go and at home, 15” 2018 MacBook Pro with i9. 6-Core i9 2.9/4.8GHz 16 GB ddr4 ram 1TB ssd Radeon pro 560X
Sweet Jesus.
Is that laptop also your work laptop??????
Overpowered but then again Dell owns us and everything we get is basically free lol.
The processor doesn't matter much these days but lots of memory and ssd can make huge difference. If you have the choice, try optimizing for that.
Yeah it seems like more and more apps are punching through 16GB and dipping into the page. 32GB is the sweet spot. Haven’t had any issues with the storage space as of yet 🤞🏻
2018 15” Retina MBP 2.6 GHz i7, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, 500 GB SSD, and Radeon Pro 560x
Hot damn
Ok, Dongle life
2x Xeon E5-2690 v3 128GB + Chromebook for meetings and ssh
Yo what on earth desktop is this.
Benchmarks are super close between the dual xeons and that Apple guys Xeon spec. Not sure if you edge them out or not. Is the ram ddr3 or ddr4?
meanwhile systems engineers (non-devs) can't get more than 8gb of RAM in MacBooks. Frugality gone too far.
:/ That’s insane that you don’t get at least current gen dev equipment. How can you do anything with 8gb of ram.
At least it should use XEON and ECC RAM to qualify as "workstation". Just call them "desktop PC"
Does it matter? Ideally you should be doing Dev on a remote server
Why must I do that on a remote server? A beefy workstation is better and probably cheaper than server with the same spec.
Every time we suggest doing this folks just go blank and eventually say “wut”. If adobe can have render farms... we can figure out dev farms

Those specs are a pipe dream for consultants at amazon
That’s crazy - figured folks at Amazon would just have stupid workstation setups
Amazon is frugal company.
