I have an offer for Firmware Development role from a startup based off Bay Area. I just received another offer for a Devops role in Seattle. Though I always wanted to work in embedded field the offer from Seattle is pretty competitive. My current background is QA/automation. Pros/cons of both career paths?
Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm curious - is there a huge supply and demand imbalance in devops?? Im bombarded with messages to the point where I've deleted from LinkedIn anything related to it
That's what creating confusion for me as well. I have been bombarded with so many Devops roles on my LinkedIn too. I am at a point to make a decision and just wanted to be sure to make the most appropriate one .
Devops is a fad , great in short run but everything will be automated . Firmware dev shouldn’t go away long term
Get and keep the dev credentials and avoid the fads.
DevOps is in high demand right now and it can be anything under the sun from sys admin to ci/cd pipelines and automation. Could be fun to do for a year or two OP.

Dude you are all over the place - QA/Automation/DevOps/Embedded/Firmware. You need to make up your mind about your long term goals.
I was stuck in QA/automation and wanted to get back in Firmware development. I did get a chance but now since I already have experience in similar field a lot of recruiters with Devops role contacted and in the process I got through one. And now I have both Devops and Firmware to choose from.
