Other countries are investing in future and we just made a gigantic investment in the past. Oh and by the way, there are more statues on the way- https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/statue-of-unity-will-no-more-be-the-world-tallest-statue-after-2021-chhatrapati-shivaji-maharaj-memorial-shiv-smarak-mumbai-maharashtra-narendra-modi/307575
One-time 400m is nothing in a national context. America spends $45 billion in Afghanistan every year and it isn't even at war. It's not a bad idea as long as we don't build a dozen of them. It's also a morale and tourism thing.
So you keep changing your profile name and start multiple threads on the same topic. You got a sad life, you have to find something better than that
Don't know the background, but 400M seems very excessive for a single statue. Is it made of gold?
Nope. It is apparently the tallest statue in the world now.
Someone must've made bank on this.
You gotta honor Sir Ben Kingsley somehow.
Its peanuts. A country economy grows by exports and not just software. This does not harm or improve any of that. So we are good.
Congrats! Now maharashtra and goa have committed to spend half a billion to erect shivaji statues. Next UP will erect a ram mandir. Welcome to next 5 years of pure stupidity.
Don't forget mayawati and other left idiots who will also erect more!
Its a no brainer what the poll results will be, when it is hosted on Blind (a non Indian forum) Come to India to see the reaction of the general public. And if you really care and are unhappy with the current state of affairs, then rather than being a keyboard warrior ensure you have your tickets booked to come and vote. Hope you don’t mind spending some dollars for the country!
People in India are unhappy too... Especially from the scores of villages that were flooded to make it more scenic
You’ve been misled by what you read in media. These so called protests are staged by opposition political parties and being covered by western media to give a bad light to the project. Nevertheless, yes certain section of people are unhappy but the majority support it.
A country needs right ideals to go ahead. India till now had been psychologically neutered by imposition of Gandhi and Nehru's pacifism, appeasement and leftism. For India to progress, it needs different ideals eg Bose, Patel who fought and accomplished big tasks in face of adversity. We won't go anywhere with the begging mentality of Gandhi, Nehru.
Even Patel would disagree with you..
Patel also constructed somnath temple in face of opposition by Nehru. I visited somnath few years ago and felt pride and connection to our ancient past and inspired to rebuild after loot/destruction by invaders. Why would Patel disagree with this other can humility reasons? You probably would have told Patel then "even shiv would disagree with you". :D

That money could've been used to improve the shitty infrastructure. You don't need to spend that kind of money to honor the past.
Problem is both about shitty infra and people's (citizens, not govt) commitment to maintaining and improving it. Unless people change their mentality and feel ownership/pride in the infra, no use in pumping money. This statue is a step in direction of changing this mentality.
The first part in your argument is reasonable. I don't know how you connected a statue to achieve that. Half the country (aka left) don't feel ownership in this, so you starting denomination is already less than half the country and you expect this statue to bring the country together to own infra. Good luck! I simply see this to appease Modi's base. Every ruler, be it left or right, who had to leave his or her legacy with a statue have all been ruined (one way or the other).
