They paid, but very little was needed after scholarships and grants. I'll pay as much as required, if college education is still a valuable means towards obtaining quality education. My wealth is not more useful elsewhere. That, is changing.
They paid for my college, but in Europe. My (private) university costed them only €11k/year (would have been ~2k in a public one), for 3 years. My kids will either go to Europe or Canada ;)
Why not US ? I am curious. The undergraduate education (for CS) here is good.
It’s also way more expensive
It amazes me how many people in tech had their parents pay for college. Really makes you think how privileged most people in tech really are... My parents didn’t (and couldn’t) pay for shit - I had to work while going to school. Not judging though, it’s not like I would have said no if they could have afforded it.
We need to compare it with how many people in other fields had their parents pay for college.
My parents paid 20% or so. I got a loan for the rest. I think having skin in the game is right. I might pay 50-80%, but leave enough there for skin in the game.
My parents would have paid, but I didn't need their help. I will pay for my kids to get an undergrad degree. They are on their own after that.
This is what I’m doing. At some point they have to understand what TC means.
